Terms & Conditions
Plain terms covering how enrolment and payment work, how courses run, who owns what, and where our promises end.
Last updated 10 October 2026
§ 01
Who this agreement is with
These terms cover your use of collingwood-research.com and any course you take with us. The agreement is between you and COLLINGWOOD RESEARCH LLC, a limited liability company organised under the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, whose address is 851 Corporate Drive, Lexington, KY 40503, United States. In this document “we”, “us” and “Collingwood Research” mean that company, and “you” means the student.
By asking for a place, paying an invoice or joining a live session, you accept these terms. If you would rather not accept them, please don't go ahead with enrolment, and do write to us if something here worries you.
§ 02
Who can take a course
- Our courses are for people aged 18 or over.
- Please make sure the details on the enrolment form are correct. We use your email address and phone number to arrange the introductory chat and to send session links, so a mistyped character can mean a missed message.
- Each place belongs to one named person. If your employer or university pays, the place is still yours and can't be shared or passed to a colleague.
§ 03
Asking for a place and paying
Sending the form on this site is a request for a place. It is not an order, and nothing is charged.
- We reply within one working day to suggest a short introductory chat of about thirty minutes.
- If you and the tutor agree the course suits you, we send an invoice in US dollars. Sales tax is added where the law requires it and is shown on the invoice. We hold your place for seven days while the invoice is open.
- Your place is confirmed, and our contract with you begins, once payment clears. We then write to confirm the course dates, session times and syllabus.
- Prices on the site may change, but the price we confirm to you in writing won't change for that course.
§ 04
How a course runs
Courses are taught live over video to a set timetable: 2 sessions a week of about 90 minutes each, with no more than 10 students. Session times are given in US Eastern Time. Each session is recorded and the recording is shared with everyone on that course.
- Occasionally illness or an emergency means we have to move a session. When that happens we give as much notice as we can and arrange a replacement.
- If too few people sign up for a course to run well, we may postpone it. You can then move to the next date or have a full refund.
- We can't promise a particular tutor. If we need to change tutors, the new one will be similarly experienced.
- You'll need a reasonably recent computer, a steady internet connection and a microphone. If a course uses any paid software, its course page says so before you pay.
§ 05
Looking after one another
A small class only works when everyone feels comfortable asking a half-formed question. We ask everyone to be courteous and patient. Anyone who harasses, threatens or repeatedly disrupts a session will be asked to leave.
- Please don't record, screenshot or share a session without our written permission, as other students can be seen in it.
- Please keep session links and login details to yourself.
- Treat anything you learn about another student's work, research or employer as confidential.
Removal for serious misconduct ends your access to the course without a refund. It is very much a last resort, and we will always speak to you plainly before it comes to that.
§ 06
Course materials and your own work
COLLINGWOOD RESEARCH LLC owns the slides, exercises, datasets we prepare, recordings, starter code and notes we provide. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use them for your own learning, including in your job or research, for as long as they remain available to you.
That licence doesn't cover reselling or publishing the materials, using them to train a machine-learning model, or using them to teach a competing course.
Your work stays yours. We claim no rights over your code, data, analyses or writing, during the course or afterwards.
§ 07
Refunds
Every course comes with a 30-day refund window. How it works is explained in our refund policy, which forms part of these terms. Nothing in these terms takes away any right you have under the consumer protection laws that apply to you.
§ 08
What we can and can't promise
We teach in good faith and try to be careful about what we claim. We can't promise that a course will lead to a job, a promotion, a publication, a grant or a particular result in your own research.
Course content is educational. It is not legal, financial, medical or statistical consulting advice, and decisions about your own work and data remain yours.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim relating to a course is limited to the amount you paid for that course, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses such as lost profits or lost data. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
§ 09
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Fayette County, Kentucky, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally. Before any of that, we would always much rather talk it through with you.
§ 10
Changes to these terms
We update these terms from time to time, and the date at the top shows which version applies. If a change materially affects a course you've already booked, we'll email you about it rather than expecting you to notice.
